D’banj takes his music back to the street after 20 years on stage
Music heavyweight D’banj who began his career on the street about 20 years ago, is returning to the street again as he storms the New Afrika Shrine, Ikeja, Lagos, in celebration of his 20 years on stage with a ‘Thank You concert.’ The concert billed for Tuesday, June 11, will be graced by some of the top music stars and stakeholders in the country.
Announcing the concert in an Instagram post, the Koko master, as he’s fondly called by his fans, wrote,
“All roads lead to the New Afrika Shrine on Tuesday, June 11. It’s a free concert in celebration of my 20 years on stage for all of you who have stuck with the Koko master since 2004 till date. The street is where it all started and we are back to where it all began.”
D’banj also acknowledged the role his former business partner and producer, Don Jazzy, played in his career. The ‘Oliver Twist’ singer confessed that his musical journey could not be complete without Mavin Records boss.
Sharing a clip from his courtesy visit to Don Jazzy to hand him the invitation card of his 20 years in music industry anniversary dinner, D’banj said “Giving you the invite to my anniversary dinner was a moment filled with nostalgia.
As we both celebrate 20 years in the industry, I’m reminded of the countless memories and milestones we’ve shared together. Here’s two decades of brotherhood, entertainment, and unwavering support. Love you always, Brother!”
D’banj and Don Jazzy co-founded Mo’Hits Records in 2004. The duo went their separate ways in 2012, with Don Jazzy citing differences in interests as the reason. Don Jazzy went on to establish Mavins Record Label while Dbanj started DB record label.
